You post. Some videos do well, a few even take off. Your view count looks like progress. But your calendar looks exactly the same as it did before you started.
If that’s you, you’re in very good company. It’s the most common thing coaches tell us on discovery calls. And the cause is almost never “the algorithm”. It’s usually one of five fixable gaps between a view and a booked call.
The short answer: views come from being interesting. Clients come from being specific, credible and easy to take the next step with. Most content only does the first part.
1. Your content speaks to everyone
Broad advice gets broad reach. “3 habits of successful people” can pull in thousands of viewers, but most of them will never pay for coaching, and none of them feel you were talking to them.
The fix: name your buyer and their situation in the first few seconds. “If you’re a new manager who just inherited your old peers…” will reach fewer people, but the right ones stop and listen. Write down the three problems your last five clients had when they first called you. Those are your next scripts.
2. Nobody knows what you sell
It sounds obvious, but scroll your own last 20 videos as a stranger would. Could they say what you offer, who it’s for and how to start? If you never mention it, viewers assume you’re a creator, not someone they can hire.
The fix: mention your offer naturally, often. Tell stories from client work (with permission), explain your method, and show what changes for people who work with you. You don’t need a pitch in every video, just a clear thread.
3. There’s no easy next step
A viewer who’s interested at 9pm won’t go hunting for your website. If the only option is “link in bio”, most will scroll on and forget you.
The fix: give one simple action, like “comment PLAN and I’ll send you the framework”. Then make sure something actually happens when they do. A comment-to-DM flow can send a useful resource instantly, ask one or two qualifying questions, and offer a call to people who fit.
4. The follow-up leaks
This is the quiet one. People do comment and message, but replies come days later, or the conversation dies after “thanks!”. Interest cools fast.
The fix: treat every DM like a lead, because it is. Reply the same day. Ask what made them reach out. If they fit, offer a specific time to talk. Track how many conversations you start each week and how many become calls. Those two numbers tell you more than views ever will.
5. You post in bursts
Three videos one week, nothing for a month. Each burst starts from scratch, and the people who were warming up to you forget you exist. Trust builds through repeated exposure, and that takes a steady rhythm.
The fix: pick a rhythm you can keep in your busiest month, not your quietest. Batch-recording a week of videos in one sitting is the simplest way we know to make that realistic.
A quick self-audit
| Check | Yes / No |
|---|---|
| Does the first line of most videos name a specific person or problem? | |
| Would a stranger know what you sell after five videos? | |
| Does each video offer one simple next step? | |
| Do comments and DMs get a reply the same day? | |
| Do you know how many conversations you started last week? | |
| Have you posted steadily for the last eight weeks? |
Every “no” is a leak. Fix them in order, top to bottom.
If you want it done for you
This is exactly the system we run for coaches and consultants at HustleGrowthz: positioning, scripts, editing, publishing on four platforms, and the DM follow-up that turns interest into calls. Frequently asked questions
Why do my Reels get views but no DMs?
Usually because the video is interesting to everyone and specific to no one. Broad, entertaining hooks attract viewers who will never buy. Content that names a specific buyer’s problem gets fewer views and more conversations.
How many followers does a coach need to get clients from Instagram?
There’s no minimum. Plenty of coaches book calls from small accounts because the right people see a clear offer and an easy next step. Who follows you matters far more than how many.
Should every video have a call to action?
Most should have a light one, like a keyword to comment or a question to answer. Not every video needs to sell, but if none of them invite a next step, viewers have nowhere to go.
Is posting more often the fix?
Rarely on its own. Posting more of content that doesn’t convert gets you more of the same result. Fix the message and the follow-up first, then increase volume.
