An Instagram Content Plan for Coaches That Actually Books Calls

A weekly Instagram content plan for coaches: three pillars, a five-day rhythm, scripts that name your buyer, and a DM flow that turns comments into calls.

Most coaches don’t have a content problem. They have a plan problem. They post whatever feels right that day, get scattered results, and conclude Instagram “doesn’t work for coaching”.

It does, when the content is built backwards from a booked call. This is the simple weekly plan we use as a starting point with coaching clients. Adapt it to your offer and your voice.

The short version: three content pillars tied to your offer, three to five short videos a week, one clear call to action, and a same-day reply to every comment and DM that shows interest.

Step 1: Pick three pillars tied to your offer

Pillars are the three themes you’ll keep coming back to. For a coach they should map to how a buyer decides:

  1. The problem: what your ideal client is struggling with, in their words. This earns attention from the right people.
  2. The method: how you think about solving it. This earns trust and shows you’re different.
  3. The proof: what changes for people who do the work, through client stories (with permission) and your own experience. This earns the call.

Write down the exact phrases your last five clients used on their first call. Those phrases are your hooks for pillar one.

Step 2: A weekly rhythm you can keep

Choose a pace you can hold in your busiest month. For most coaches with a full client load, three to five short videos a week is realistic, especially if you batch-record.

DayPillarVideo ideaCall to action
MondayProblem“If you’re [specific person] and [specific frustration], here’s what’s really going on.”Comment a keyword for a free resource
TuesdayMethodOne step of your framework, explained simply.Save this for later
WednesdayProofA client story: where they started, what changed, what it took.DM a word to talk about your situation
ThursdayProblemA common mistake your buyers make, and the better option.Comment a keyword
FridayMethod or beliefSomething you disagree with in your industry, and why.Follow for more

Stories and Reels can share the same ideas. A video that works on Instagram can usually go to TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Facebook with small changes.

Step 3: Write scripts that name your buyer

Each video needs three things: a hook that names who it’s for, one clear point, and one next step. Keep it under a minute when you can.

  • Hook: “Leadership coaches: if your team nods in meetings and then does nothing…”
  • Point: one idea, explained with an example from real work.
  • Next step: “Comment PLAN and I’ll send you the one-page version.”

Specific hooks get fewer views and better viewers. For a coach selling a high-ticket offer, that’s the right trade.

Step 4: Turn comments into conversations

This is the step most plans skip, and it’s where clients come from. When someone comments your keyword, they should get a helpful message right away, then one or two questions that tell you whether they’re a fit, then an easy way to book a call if they are.

A tool like ManyChat can send the first message automatically. We cover how to design the whole flow in comment-to-DM automation for coaches. Whatever you use, reply to real questions the same day.

Step 5: Review every week

Ignore vanity numbers for a moment and answer three questions every Friday:

  1. How many conversations did content start this week?
  2. How many became calls?
  3. Which videos started them?

Make more of what started conversations. If views are high but conversations are low, read why Reels get views but no clients.

Common mistakes

  • Posting only tips. Tips build an audience; method and proof build buyers. Keep all three pillars in the mix.
  • Hiding the offer. If you never mention what you do, people won’t know they can hire you.
  • Changing strategy every two weeks. Give a plan at least six to eight weeks before judging it.
  • Letting DMs sit. Interest cools fast. Reply the same day.

Want it run for you?

This plan is the starting point of what we run for coaches every month: positioning, scripts, editing, publishing on four platforms and the DM follow-up. You record for about an hour a week. See how it works or book a free strategy call.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a coach post on Instagram?

Often enough that you can keep it up in your busiest month. For most coaches with clients, three to five short videos a week is realistic, especially if you batch-record.

Do coaches need Reels, or are carousels enough?

Reels reach new people more easily, while carousels are good for teaching and saves. Most coaches do well leading with short video and using carousels to support it.

How long until Instagram brings in coaching clients?

There’s no fixed timeline. Give a consistent plan at least six to eight weeks, and judge it first on conversations started, then on calls booked.

What should a coach’s call to action be?

One simple step per video, like commenting a keyword to get a resource. Make sure something useful happens when they do, and that interested people can book a call easily.
